A thin line between love and DNF

SPOILER ALERT!

Sweet Evil

Sweet Evil -

This book has been on my TBR for eons and it kept getting passed over for this book or that series until I was on my way through the list, weeding out the ones I knew I wasn't going to read.

I hovered on this one, I got an Amazon gift card for my birthday, and kismet.

Even under a HUGE time crunch at work and a very hectic schedule, I found it really hard to put this one down. I loved the angels and demons and omg, everyone might be crushing on Kaiden but I've got some major mojo running for (view spoiler).

Because there is a strongly hinted at triangle, I'm going to keep with my usual standard and wait until the third book is out (just a few months) before I pick up the next in the series.

Yes, I hate cliffhangers THAT much.

Dead Beat (Dresden Files Series #7)

Dead Beat (Dresden Files Series #7) - Jealous Harry at the start, protective Harry at the end. Hello.

The Long Way Home

The Long Way Home - Tara Brown I stopped at 20% with a mighty "what the hell am I reading?" and removed it from my Kindle. Not only couldn't I connect with J.D. I sort of wanted her to just get into a car crash and save me the trouble of finishing it.Punctuation errors like whoa, disjointed plot. Wildly off the wall reactions to the strangest things while no reaction to others. "Keep me from calling this random stranger I'm going to bang...but I won't bang you because I love you."Uh huh. Check, please.
Until I Die - Amy Plum Solid 4 on this one...and I won't be moving on.My favorite character in this book was Jules (though Arthur seriously grew on me near the end.) It was far and away better than the first book and much more of an engrossing read.I have reasons that spoil the third book for why I won't be moving on with this one, but it was a good read and maybe someday I'll come back and read the third.

Styxx (Dark-Hunter Novels)

Styxx - Sherrilyn Kenyon Wow. Just. Wow.Full disclosure - up until 71% in, this was getting 3 stars at most. The last 30%? Rocked me off my ass - several times. The bad first - I could have seriously done without about half of the pre-modern times. Too much time with Styxx as a child. Many of these scenes could have been consolidated and they just seemed to go on forever. And then, once she did, damn omg, the near-continual rape scenes. Rape's always been a big trigger for me and I might be cured now. Overexposure to the extreme. And, seriously, if it wasn't a rape scene, it was a reference to it. I've read gay porn that didn't use the word cock that much. It got tiring after a whileThe best - okay, there were some very definite Deus ex Machina moments like Apollo's minion 'masquerading' as Styxx for the most horrible things Styxx did in Acheron and there were times I just got completely pissed off about what I saw as character assassination of Acheron. I fell in love with him during his book and it was like watching someone deface a masterpiece to see him as such an unlikeable character. Then I understood it as the book hit present day - and I remembered about the past being colored by the one viewing it. And that anger just melted away as I saw the brilliance behind it.I loved Styxx with his soldiers, and his military family. Loved his relationship with Galen so much. Then we got to present day and it went from accepted to FREAKING AWESOME. I loved watching the scenes we'd read before again but through Styxx's eyes. I loved watching Styxx find allies and find his place in this world. I loved Urian finding him and championing him to Acheron (I think that's one of my favorite scenes) and I loved it even before it was revealed that Urian was Galen The one scene that I wanted most was Styxx POV of Tory's rescue - and it was more than I hoped as well as utterly devastating at the same time.I loved seeing all of my gods and goddesses, loved the way it all came together in the end. Crap, I even loved Artemis (and the way she not only went to bits over being Gramma to Mia, even so far as joking about Acheron only having horns when he's angry - and then, then, omg, she went completely avenging angel about Nick being hurt by Apollo.Yeah. Nick/Artie. I SO ship it...which rips my heart to bits because I also ship Nick/Kody.Finally - yeah Apollo being handed naked to Apollymi. And Stryker and his wife. Gods that was beautiful. I cheered so hard I set the dog to barking like mad.The end was beautiful and perfect and just left me with warm fuzzies all over (except, of course, for the rather foreboding final chapters that, no doubt, set up the next book and the thrill I felt when I saw the Malachai mentioned, because that means some good Nick time even if I have to wait a year for it.Not sure if I'll buy the audio book because all I really want to listen to is the last half of it, but that's a decision for later. For now, I just want to reread the last 30% over and over again.

Blood Rites (Dresden Files Series #6)

Blood Rites - Jim Butcher Still loving the series but since this one had many many Harry/Murphy moments, and some o.O moments that had my jaw dropping. Onto the next.
Die for Me - Amy Plum There were a few Twilight elements here - but much more effectively portrayed. The writing's solid and the world-building is fabulous. This one reads very much like a stand alone story, so I'm intrigued about where the second will go.
The Last Olympian - Rick Riordan When I finished this book, all I wanted to do was go right back to the beginning and read it again. Problem was...it was 2 am, I'd been reading since 8pm, and I had to get up for work in 4 hours. So much love I can't stand it. Seriously can't. How in the hell did I make it this long without reading this series? Was I really that much of an idiot?Yep, I was.Contemplating the second Olympians series (hoping its just as good) but trying to decide if I'm going to wait until it's complete or plunge ahead and risk cliffies.I've got another YA series to read first, then I'll decide.
The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Book 4) - Rick Riordan Yeah, so, I loved this one so much I literally bought the next one and started reading immediately. Reviews? Ain't no one got time for that.I now see why people say #4 and #5 are the best in the series. Just. Damn.
The Titan's Curse - Rick Riordan Five stars for this one because the series doesn't pull punches - good and bad. This is one of those times I love reading on a Kindle. Finished at 11pm, bought the next one and started reading two minutes later.

Death Masks (Dresden Files Series #5)

Death Masks - Jim Butcher This one gets only four stars....mostly because it's rife with Susan and she makes me want to throw things.

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #2)

The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #2) - Honestly, zipped through this one and it looks like I'll be moving just as fast through Titan's Curse because I had a hard time putting it down to go back to work after lunch. Totally different from the movie, and in a good way. So much better.

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1)

The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Series #1) - Seriously. How the hell have I not read this series before now?Percy's POV is awesome with the self-depreciating comments. He almost reminds me of Nick in the Dark Hunter's Chronicles of Nick series. And if you think you know the story because you've seen the movie? Think again. It's completely different.Already on to Sea of Monsters.

Summer Knight (Dresden Files Series #4)

Summer Knight (Dresden Files Series #4) - Loved it as I've loved the others...and this one had some awesome scenes with Karrin and Harry so...yeah. Extra star there. (Harry taunting her about having a girl gun is still making me laugh.)

Here Without You (Between the Lines #4)

Here Without You - Tammara Webber Wow. That's what I thought. A whole pile of wow with a side order of awesome.Oh yeah, and a whole basket of tears on the side. I was literally bawling by the end of it (good tears) and just...yeah. It may be a while before I have any words that make sense for how much I loved the last in this series and the series as a whole.Reid. Oh my God, Reid. From Between the Lines to now. You've made me angry, sad, you've broken my heart, made me laugh and made me sigh. And now I want to read the whole series again, end to end, even though I JUST finished listening to the first three audiobooks last month.Three words will haunt me for days and probably make it impossible for me to concentrate on any other book for awhile.

Midnight Frost

Midnight Frost - Fully admitting I knew who Oliver was texting, but also that after that revelation was made I was halfway to tossing my Kindle across the room until Gwen rounded on Logan and told him to get the eff over it already.Love ya mean it, Gwen. =)The Gryphons. Vivian being a complete...yeah.And Logan Freaking Quinn.Already anticipating #6.
